Hello and welcome!
I'm going to give this Blog thing a shot! My goal is to share more frequent news, learning experiences and progress from students of the horse -- that would be myself (as both student and coach), my students and any of you out there who are studying FEEL.
Feel is about many things. Bill Dorrance (see "True Horsemanship Through Feel" by Bill Dorrance and Leslie Desmond) has six definitions about feel, and one about what he did not mean :) Then there is 'meaningful feel', which Leslie often draws our attention to, and what Bill called our 'better feel'.
Enjoy! More soon... Karen

Hello Karen-
ReplyDeleteI am fairly new to the Bill Dorrance approach to Feel and Release, but am finding that this approach works well for my gelding. However, I am having a hard time finding the training lead ropes that I see you use. Can you recommend where I can purchase one at? Thanks tons!
Hi SpanishDashBar
ReplyDeleteI am getting a lot of requests for this rope! It is tree-line rope with a core and has more "life" to it than many other types. When you work with real meaning in the float, it makes a big difference to the clarity of feel offered to the horse. I also like the parachute cord ropes, but tree-line is easier to handle and less to hold when coiled, for the ladies' :)
It is hard to get in the longer length rope I use. I just decided to get the rope in bulk and offer the 15' and 24' lead ropes/mecates and halters I use via my web site. This will happen in the next couple of weeks (when I get more rope, the first went in a flash). I have seen the same rope sold elsewhere (I believe the Buck Brannaman leads are the same type of rope), but I find these a bit short for much of this type of groundwork.
I'll post something here to let people know when the ropes are available. My web site is www.theartofriding.com
Thanks for posting!
